Treat yourself to the Judge's Chambers Restaurant and discover the genesis of Prairie Food. judgejones.jpg (12522 bytes)The restored and converted 1929 home of the Honorable Judge Ashton Jones and his lovely wife, Amelia is the setting for this remarkable restaurant. Again this 70-year-old home is a community center of warmth and hospitality.

Long time residents of Broadus still recall how impeccably the Jones' maintained their property. After years of changing hands and hard use, the property was purchased in 1993 from son Buzz Jones. The new restaurateurs, lifetime residents Jean Hough and son Stephen Held, began to restore, protect and share the craftsmanship of this community landmark.

When Jean saw the house in disrepair it broke her heart. She arranged to buy it, then they began thinking of how to put it to the best use. While making a living as an actor in New York and Hollywood, son Stephen, a member of Club Culinaire Francais, had the luxury of discovering the joys of great dining. Jean too, has visited Europe and seen much of the world, being one of the first Americans granted entry into the Republic of China in 1972. As restoration continued, they spent endless hours discussing uses for the building. Finally it was decided that the former home should house a restaurant to satiate the finest of taste, while filling the hunger of a Western family. Jean struck on the name, the Judges Chambers, in honor of Judge Ashton Jones and they were off.

Hiring European chefs, while being advised by top restaurateurs, Steve hit on a food concept his wife Ginger dubbed Prairie Food. This new and exciting cuisine combines the best ingredients and recipes from Montana, with the fine subtleties of their European ancestry. This new experience is sweeping the country, with foreign guests exclaiming it, "the best food in America".

The home stands now almost exactly as it began. It's gardens produce vegetables and herbs used in the kitchen of the Judge's Chambers, providing our guests with the freshest food possible. You can expect our menu to rotate with the seasons and the growth of the gardens. Our Chef is committed to serving healthy, fulfilling entrees, while providing patrons an opportunity to dine on regional food, creatively prepared and presented with simple elegance.

It will be a pleasure to have you as our guest.
